File size depends on the picture
Resizing a phone photograph
A 4032-pixel phone photo can be reduced to 1920 pixels wide and saved as WebP around 75–80% quality. The exact file size depends on detail, noise and the original format, so inspect the downloaded copy rather than relying on a promised percentage.
What the browser changes
New height = original height × (maximum width ÷ original width). When a JPG or WebP exceeds the target size, ImageShrink lowers encoding quality in steps until it reaches the target or its minimum quality.
Keep the original file
- Choose WebP for smaller web photos, JPG for broad photo compatibility and PNG for transparency or crisp interface graphics.
- A target size is not guaranteed for PNG output.
- Keep the original; resizing and lossy compression cannot be reversed.

No. The browser reads, redraws and exports the selected files on your device.
Why did a compressed PNG stay large?
PNG is lossless and ImageShrink does not reduce its quality to chase a target size. Switch a photograph to WebP or JPG, or lower its maximum width.
