Using this tool

Cross midnight before subtracting breaks

Enter the shift start, finish, unpaid break and hourly rate. Overnight work is handled automatically, and overtime begins after the daily threshold you choose.

Reading the output

Gross pay is not take-home pay

Worked example

Nine hours with an unpaid break

A 9-hour shift with a 30-minute unpaid break produces 8.5 paid hours. With overtime after 8 hours, 0.5 hour is counted at the overtime multiplier.

Calculation

Regular and overtime hours

Paid hours = finish − start − unpaid break. Gross estimate = regular hours × rate + overtime hours × rate × multiplier.

Limitations

Your contract sets the real rule

  • Use the rules in your contract and local law for overtime and breaks.
  • This is a gross estimate before tax, deductions or allowances.
  • Keep official time records when the result affects wages.

Before relying on the result

Overnight work and deductions

Can it handle an overnight shift?

Yes. When the finish time is earlier than the start, the calculator treats the finish as occurring the next day.

Is the result my take-home pay?

No. It estimates gross pay before tax, benefits, deductions and any special allowances.
