Using this tool

Build a password that is hard to guess

Choose the password length and character sets you want to allow. PassKey uses the browser's cryptographic random number generator, keeps every selected character type represented, and never sends the generated password anywhere.

Reading the output

Length is the main advantage

Worked example

A 20-character account password

A 20-character password that includes upper- and lowercase letters, numbers and symbols has far more possible combinations than a short word with a number added at the end.

Calculation

Random characters and possible combinations

Possible combinations grow exponentially: character-set size raised to the password length. More length is usually the biggest improvement.

Limitations

Protect the password after generation

  • Use a different password for every important account.
  • Store long random passwords in a reputable password manager.
  • Turn on multi-factor authentication when the service offers it.

Privacy and password length

Is this password sent to ToolOrbit?

No. Generation runs in your browser and ToolOrbit does not receive or save the password.

How long should my password be?

Use the maximum length a service accepts. For important accounts, 16 characters or more is a practical baseline.
